Scarlet Tiger Moth

An impressive summer moth with red underwings, it prefers damp places and meadows. They are less nocturnal than many moths, often flying in the afternoon when their red on black warning colours help protect them from bird predators.

The caterpillars are hairy striped black and yellow and feed on nettles and comfrey.
